Manufacturing, Extractive Industries Index Up In Q1 2012 -Planning Commission

Rabat – The index of mining production, electric power and manufacturing industries has seen an appreciable rise at the end of the first quarter of 2012 compared to the same period a year earlier, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).

Manufacturing industries recorded a year-on-year increase of 3.7%, it said.

This rise is notably due to an increase of 15.6% in the production of “other non-metallic mineral products”, including cement with 21.7%, “clothes and furs” with 5.8% and “food industry” with 3.4%.

As to the index of mining production, it rose 1.7%, resulting from a 1.8% rise in “miscellaneous products of extractive industries”, including phosphates with 2.5% and “metal ores” with 0.7%.

The electrcic power production index recorded an increase of 12.8% over the reporting period.
