Joint Morocco-DR Congo cooperation committee meeting opens on Thursday
The second session of the joint Morocco/DR Congo cooperation committee begins on Thursday in Rabat, Morocco’s foreign affairs and cooperation ministry has announced. The two-day meeting will be devoted to the evaluation of cooperation between Rabat and Kinshasa in an effort to give it a new impetus and hoist it to the level of the ‘excellent political relations between the two countries’, a communique of the Moroccan foreign affairs ministry issued on Wednesday in Rabat said.
The proceedings of the committee, which will be presided over by the head of the Moroccan diplomacy, Saad Dine El Otmani and his DR Congo counterpart, Basile Ikouébé, will also help look into ‘ways and means of diversifying the bilateral partnership and strengthening the legal framework binding the two countries’.
The first session of the joint Morocco/DR Congo committee was held on 8 and 9 May 2007 in Rabat.
During Moroccan King Mohammed’s visit to Kinshasa in 2006, Morocco and DRC signed several draft agreements, including a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs of the two countries.
They also agreed on draft cooperation agreements in fishing, agriculture, health, industry and commerce.
