Moroccan, Spanish Scholars Discuss Immigration Issues In Rabat

Rabat -Several Moroccan and Spanish scholars and university professors offered different approaches to the issue of immigration which affects both the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean.

The participants in the panel, held on Thursday by Morocco’s news Agency (MAP) and the Spanish international cooperation and development agency in Morocco, gave their different approaches about immigration which has become a key issue in Moroccan-Spanish relations at a context marked by a severe economic crisis.

Speaking on this occasion, Secretary General for employment and social security at the Spanish Embassy in Rabat, Amapola Blasco, said that Madrid had to review the social services provided to foreigners in light of the crisis that is hitting the country.

Blasco added that the crises had a detrimental impact on employment and education, adding that this new situation pushed the government to reconsider its integration policy.

In this respect, the Spanish diplomat said that Spain is facing challenges relating to seeking a way out of the crisis and providing the foreign community access to basic social services.

For his part, Mohamed Chaib, former deputy in the Catalan parliament, underscored the interrelatedness of growth in Morocco and Spain, adding that the two countries are called upon to fnd solutions to the problems facing Moroccan students in Spain who saw registration fees rise 16-fold.
