Brussels – Morocco’s constitutional reforms stand as a source of inspiration for other countries in the region, Secretary General of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) Vidar Helgesen said on Thursday in Brussels.
The consultations and the debate involving political parties and the constituents of the civil society over the constitutional reform represent an “important contribution to the democratization and a great source of inspiration for other countries in the region,” Helgesen told the press on the sidelines of his participation in a conference on Europe and the Arab Spring.
The Secretary General of the IDEA added that the International community follows closely the reforms launched in Morocco to reinforce democracy.
He also commended Morocco for implementing deep structural reforms at a time when other countries in the region suffered violent conflicts.
