Rabat – Participants at the 27th session of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), held recently in Beirut, have unanimously approved Morocco’s application to join the organization, after serving for 7 years as an observer, and a recommendation was submitted to the Economic and Social Council in order to begin the membership process.
According to a statement from the Department of Economic and General Affairs, MAP news agency received on Monday, the Minister Delegate at the head of government in charge of General Affairs and Governance, Najib Boulif, had defended during this session, the accession of Morocco to ESCWA, when the geographic location is not required to be included, under the rules of that organization.
The same source indicates that Boulif highlighted in a speech to the participants, the civilizing influence of Morocco, reaffirming the continued commitment of the Kingdom to work for cooperation and joint action.
The Moroccan government, he said, gives a priority to three main lines of action of ESCWA, namely equitable growth and sustainable development, good governance and strengthening competitiveness, and regional complementarity.
