MAPMorocco Refuses To Cooperate With Ross -Minister Delegate
Rabat – Morocco “refuses to cooperate with the personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Christopher Ross, and what matters the most for the Kingdom is to achieve a political solution within respect for its sovereignty”, Moroccan minister delegate for foreign affairs Youssef Amrani said.
Amrani added in an interview with the daily Al-Ittihad Al Ichtiraqi, published on Saturday, that the Kingdom, which is keen to achieve stability and build a strong Maghreb able to rise to all challenges, and achieve a political solution to the dispute over the Sahara, remains committed to the UN process and to cooperation with the United Nations and the Security Council.
The official, who pointed out that Morocco’s withdrawal of confidence in Ross is justified by “the decline in the negotiation process despite all the Kingdom’s efforts to reach a consensual political solution”, said that “the personal envoy of the UN Secretary General has not demonstrated objectivity and impartiality, and has clearly failed in the mission which he was entrusted with.”
Ross endeavoured to distort the role of MINURSO, by politicizing its mission through his attempts to incorporate the aspect of human rights, thereby committing a serious mistake, Amrani said.
On support expressed by the UN Secretary-General for his personal envoy, the minister delegate said that Morocco has expressed its position vis-à-vis Ross and expects “a formal response from Ban Ki-moon.”
