Language training for PSC scholars

THE Public Service Commission believes students sponsored to study outside of Fiji require language training.
This has prompted PSC to release an expression of interest for the teaching of conversational Spanish and French to successful applicants of government scholarships to Morocco and Cuba.
“We want to ensure that our students are well prepared for learning and by providing this language training to the students, we anticipate that they will adapt better to the tertiary environment offered by Morocco and Cuba,” PSC permanent secretary, Parmesh Chand said.
Mr Chand said by having the foreign language classes, it would expose the students to the culture of the country concerned as well as enhance their academic skills.
“Following my recent trip to Morocco and after receiving feedback about the students in Cuba, we have decided to provide this language training as part of the orientation program for the students,” he said.
The French class will comprise about 12 students, and four to six students will participate in the Spanish class.
Classes are expected to begin in June and end in August.
