Rabat – The Judiciary police national squad (BNPJ) seized a batch of weapons that were smuggled into Morocco by members of the terrorist network dubbed “Moroccan Mujahideen Movement”, led by an influential member of the ring which operates in several Moroccan cities, a statement by the Interior Ministry said on Friday.
The dismantling of this network was announced on May 5 by the said ministry.
The weapons were hidden in farms near Tiflet and in the Sebaa Ayoun region, the same source said, adding that the investigations enabled the BNPJ to spot the arms caches and the smuggling network.
The arms seizure and search operation is in conformity with the law.
The seized weapons in Tiflet include 4 submachine guns, 3 automatic pistols, 74 bullets of 9mm and 30 of 7.65mm, a holster and three magazines.
The probe conducted in the Sebaa Ayoun region enabled seizing a gun and a magazine loaded with nine bullets.
The investigations are still under way by the security services, in coordination with the public prosecutor’s department in charge of terrorist affairs, to determine the ring’s links and branches and arrest the terrorists.
A technical expertise will be carried out on the seized weapons and ammunition at the forensic science laboratory.
