Rabat – The Moroccan Interior Ministry announced, on Saturday, that the security services smashed a terrorist ring operating in several Moroccan cities, led by an influential member of the terrorist organization dubbed “Moroccan Mujahideen Movement”.

A statement by the ministry says that, as part of ongoing efforts by the security services to counter terrorist acts and enforce law and order, the National squad of the judiciary police (BNPJ) has dismantled, on the basis of exhaustive information, a terrorist network operating in several Moroccan cities, led by a leading member of the said organization. The organization’s mastermind, who has links with international terrorist organizations and parties, was “a wanted person nationally and internationally, in 2003 and 2010, for his implication in cases related to terrorism and for gravely undermining the Kingdom’s domestic security,” the statement added.

Aided by other members of the network, he succeeded in smuggling weapons into the national territory and intended to use them in terrorist operations, it said.

The members of the ring will be brought before justice after completion of the investigation, under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office, in conformity with the procedures in force.
