Morocco: Universities to face digitisation challenge

First steps at Hassan II Mohammedia-Casablanca University

(ANSAmed) – RABAT, APRIL 27 – In order to grow and open themselves to new horizons, Moroccan universities have a fundamental need to develop a digital space and information system, according to student and university leaders, who have met at a conference entitled “Towards a digital future: Digital information system and work environment”, which was organised by the management of the Hassan II Mohammedia-Casablanca University.

Speakers underlined that development will help to improve the quality of research, giving researchers access to information on a global scale, making new educational instruments available to students and favouring cultural integration.

The digital work platform will need to be global and able to provide all university users with a point of network access to a set of digital resources and services connected with their studies. Users will therefore be able to access the university information system at any moment from any location.

The Hassan II Mohammedia-Casablanca University is aware of the challenge and has already launched a new method of governance, through the implementation of an integrated information and management system, which aims to digitise a large number of administrative, academic and research practices.

The lively debate between figures from the Ministry for Higher Education and leading officials from university administration and technical departments is part of a series of events marking celebrations of the 20th anniversary of Hassan II Mohammedia-Casablanca University, which according to the Moroccan news agency MAP currently has 33,000 students spread across 189 different courses.(ANSAmed).
