Personal Notes : I have brushed repeatedly in the past on the unique qualifications of Israel in the fields of renewable energy and water desalination. They are confirming their place as the regions leaders. As the article below states, no other Arab or Middle East company is present in the listing established by the CleanTech group. Should we lament the fact, or be content with it ? I would say neither, people get what they deserve and work for, as for being content about the fact that no Arab company is represented, I say that being content with it is plain wrong. We need to see research take place and that research translate into marketable technology.
If repetition serves a purpose I stated in the past that the political situation makes the whole region lose big. It is tough if not impossible for Israeli companies to enter our market, whereas we could definitely use their technologies. As a matter of fact, we are already I believe. There is no need to be hypocritical about it, all those Middle East kingdoms desalination stations are using Israeli patents.
Now the question is how long will the situation go on ? As long as we allow it. The greatest tragedy of the Israeli Arab conflict, has been a long list of misunderstandings, betrayals, and missed opportunities from both sides. The thing is we as individuals tend to learn and move on, whereas what I see is people content with sitting on their hands, until it is too late to help but pass on the situation to the next generation to deal with.
At any rates, congratulations to the Israeli winners for this consecration.
Israeli clean tech innovators comprise 8 percent of the world’s best clean tech companies according to this 2011 award.
It’s the third year running that the Cleantech Group has put together its Global Cleantech 100. Last year, 7 Israeli companies were on the list. This year we see some repeats, with 8 on the list if you include BrightSource, Greenroad Technologies and Better Place –– both founded by Israelis but with operations in the USA. I have interviewed them all in the past.
The Israelis winners are:
Aqwise
Better Place
BrightSource
GreenRoad Technologies
Kaiima
TaKaDu
Emefcy
Tigo Energy
Company of the year was awarded in each of three regions to the highest-ranked company with no negative votes from the expert panel. In the Europe/Israel region TaKaDu, an SaaS water monitoring solution for utilities, won the prize. A couple more Israeli companies got accolades: BrightSource Energy, developer of solar thermal power systems, won the Continued Excellence award, given to the highest-ranked of companies that have made it onto the Global Cleantech 100 list for all three consecutive years.
Emefcy, a wastewater treatment company, won the award for Early Stage Company of the Year, given to the highest-ranked pre-revenue company.
There are no other companies from the Middle East region on the list. Nor are there companies with Middle East or Arab roots that Green Prophet is aware of.
