Casablanca – HM King Mohammed VI launched, on Tuesday, two structural projects to develop logistics industry in the region of Great Casablanca, with an overall budget of 1.3 billion dirhams.

The projects consist of building a road linking the port of Casablanca to the logistic activities zone in Zenata (Mohammedia), and developing a logistics zone “MITA-Casablanca”.

They are bound to reinforce the implementation of the national strategy for the development of logistics competitiveness, in the sense that they will enable to promote better management of flows of goods in terms of the volume, the itinerary and the transport modes.

The projects are also bound to promote the sustainability of growth and economic dynamics in the Great Casablanca and the regions corresponding to the economic hinterland of the port (60% of trade volume).

They have a social and environmental dimension, given that they will contribute to improving urban traffic in terms of reducing traffic congestion, ensuring road safety and fighting pollution and noise.

The road linking the logistics activities zone to the port of Casablanca Zenata aims to ease congestion on roads adjacent to the port and improve conditions of the transport of goods and the flow of trucks.

The second project is the logistics area “MITA-Casablanca” which will be carried out in three phases for a total investment of 600 million dirhams.

Built on 32 ha, the area will host MITA warehouses that meet international standards for logistics professionals.

The structural projects fall within the scope of the implementation of the national strategy for the development of logistics competitiveness, aimed at promoting optimal management of the flow of goods, increasing the national economy’s growth from 3 to 5 points of GDP by 2015 and generating 36,000 jobs by 2015 and 96,000 jobs by 2030.
