Lacock couple Steve and Gayle King are pulling out all the stops to raise funds for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance in thanks for its assistance after Mr King was involved in a farming accident.

They are holding a black tie and tiara ball at The Bear Hotel, in Devizes, on Saturday, April 28, and will also be flying out to Morocco to take part in the Mount Toubkal trek raising funds for the charity in October.

Mr and Mrs King, of Folly Row, aim to raise at least £3,000 between them for the air ambulance this year through a series of fundraisers.

The couple are supporting the charity because Wiltshire Air Ambulance saved Mr King, 28, when he had an accident at Wick Farm, in Lacock, which his family run, around 10 years ago which resulted in his left foot being amputated.

Mrs King, 25, said: “My husband Steve was in a bad accident on his family’s farm when his foot got caught in a tractor’s hydraulic hitch. Wiltshire Air Ambulance helped Steve and got him to Royal United Hospital Bath in three minutes where he was taken straight into theatre.

“Unfortunately, after a few weeks in the hospital and after many operations Steve had to have his foot amputated but Wiltshire Air Ambulance gave Steve the best chance they could by getting him to the help he needed so quickly and we want to say thanks to them for the amazing service they provide.”

At the black-tie event organised by the couple, who have two sons Blake, four, and Spencer, one, there will be a four course meal, a raffle and an auction with prizes donated by local businesses.

Mrs King, who runs a stable at Wick Farm, said: “We’ve been so lucky and have had lots of businesses donating some fantastic items which we are so grateful for. We’d also like to hear from anyone else who’d like to donate lots for the auction.”

So far, the couple have raised around £2,200 through their fundraisers and will be flying to Morocco as a group of 20 supporting Wiltshire Air Ambulance on the 4000m Mount Toubkal trek in October.

Tickets cost £39.50 and for more information email gayle.king86@ googlemail.com or to donate to the King’s fundraising visit www.justgiving.com/GayleandSteveKing
