Paris – Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani takes part, on Thursday afternoon in Paris, in a meeting on Syria bringing together top French diplomat, Alain Juppé, and other 15 foreign ministers of the Friends of Syria Group, including U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Convened by France, this event aims to take stock of the situation in Syria and to “send a message to Damascus a firm message as well as a message of support to Mr. Kofi Annan,” the League/UN special envoy, according to Juppe.
“The obstacles that Damascus put to the deployment of the UN observers mission and the continuation of repression by the Syrian regime, in contradiction with its commitments, need a strong reaction from the international community,” said Juppé.
The meeting comes after a meeting of working group on sanctions against the Syrian regime, held in Paris on Tuesday.
