New York – The unanimous adoption, on Thursday, by the UN Security Council of a presidential statement concerning Syria reiterates full support for the UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan and reflects the hope pinned by the international community in his mediation to find a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis, Morocco’s Ambassador to the UN Mohamed Loulichki said.
This new statement reafirms the Security Council full support to Annan’s mediation, Loulichki told the press, adding that Morocco, as a representative of Arab countries, has participated in all the elaboration and negotiation stages.
The statement adopted in this respect expresses the Council’s appreciation of Annan’s report and calls on the Syrian government to immediatly implement its commitment with a view to ceasing to deploy troops in urban centers, halting the use of heavy weaponry and withdraw forces from urban centers and their surroundings.
