Morocco’s Raja Casablanca are likely to exit the African Champions League from the round of 32 after suffering a humiliating 5-0 at Ghana’s Berekum Chelsea on Sunday.
Solomon Asante put the hosts ahead in the 33rd minute and Emmanuel Clottey doubled the lead on the stroke of halftime.
Chelsea ran riot in the second half, with Clottey adding two more goals to complete his hat-trick and skipper Abdul Basit also finding the net to condemn Raja to one of their worst defeats in African competitions.
Raja won Africa’s premier club competition three times in 1989, 1997 and 1999. They have not reached the last four since qualifying for the semifinal in 2005.
Chelsea, who won their first Ghanaian league title last season, are making their maiden Champions League appearance.
