SEOUL, March 25 (Yonhap) — South Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan will hold a series of bilateral talks with his counterparts from nine nations as well as the head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog on the sidelines of this week’s nuclear summit, the ministry said Sunday.
Starting Sunday, Kim is scheduled to meet with his counterparts from Switzerland, Germany, Egypt, Canada, Argentina, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan and Morocco, as well as the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the ministry said in a statement.
The bilateral talks “will deal with the regional situation, such as that on the Korean Peninsula, and ways to work together on a wide range of fields, including the nuclear summit, economy, trade, energy and infrastructure,” the statement said.
Representatives from 58 nations and four international organizations, including 45 heads of state, plan to attend the two-day Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul starting Monday.
The inaugural summit was held in Washington two years ago and the second Seoul summit is aimed at laying out more specific actions to secure the management of loose nuclear materials, guarantee radiological security and combat illicit trafficking.
