Morocco takes centre stage on the 2012 European Tour ‘Race to Dubai’ this week and there is one player looking to impress and it’s Morocco’s top-ranked professional, Faycal Serghini.

Serghini is no stranger to the Hassan II Trophy as he’s competed many times in the event and long before it became a full European Tour event in 2010.

The 36-year old Serghini finished a superb sixth in the 2007 event in the capital Rabat and three years before it became linked with the European Tour as a full Race to Dubai tournament

Serghini was the only Moroccan born player to compete in last year’s tournament in Agadir but this year his has company in four compatriots.

He turned pro in 2000 and has been ranked Morocco’s top player for the past three years.

Serghini is attached to the Golf de Mogador course that was designed by legendary South African Gary Player.

“I have progressed very much since I finished seventh in the 2007 Hassan II Trophy,” he said.

“That is with thanks to the directors at the Mogador club, Amyn Alami and Said Benhamida along with the work I am doing with my coach, Benoit Wwillmart.

“This is a very special week for all Moroccan golfers not only myself and my three countrymen who are teeing up. It puts Morocco on the golfing map for one week a year and this makes us all very proud.

“And we are all very lucky to be playing on such a great golf course. The course is absoutely immaculate and many of the European Tour players I have spoken to already say it is one of the best they will compete on in 2012.

“We are all grateful to His Highness Royal, Prince Moulay Rachid who is also President of the Association Trophy Hassan II Trophy.”

And Serghini is also grateful to his sponsors – Meditel, Lacoste and AGTT – who continue to support him in the professional ranks.
