Benkirane Stresses Importance Of Royal Initiative To Generalise Health Assistance For The Underprivileged

Rabat – Head of Government Abdelilah Benkirane underscored, on Tuesday in Rabat, that the Royal initiative to generalize health assistance for the underprivileged (known by its French acronym RAMED) is a programme that falls within the comprehensive framework of the reforms launched by the Kingdom to improve the social conditions of citizens.

Benkirane who chaired a meeting of the intermenisterial committee in charge of following up RAMED stressed the need to achieve the objectives of this health assistance programme, which is designed to benefit 8.5 million underprivileged people (28% of the Moroccan population), including 4 million poor inhabitants and 4.5 vulnerable ones, in addition to 160,000 prisoners, homeless persons and orphans.

He also called for upholding the principles of transparency and good governance in the implementation of RAMED, a programme which was launched by HM King Mohammed VI last week, a statement of the Head of Government’s office said.

Concerning the funding of the programme, Minister of Economy and Finance Nizar Baraka said that the annual cost of RAMED will stand at about 2.7 billion dirhams to which the state will contribute by 75%, local collectivities by 6% and people in precarious situation by 19%.

The programme will also be financed by the fund for social cohesion.
