UN Women Commends Morocco For Women Rights Achievements

Rabat – The Executive Director of UN Women Michelle Bachelet commended on Thursday Morocco for the its achivements in the field of promoting women rights and conditions.

The UN official who met Head of government Abdelilah Benkirane in Rabat highlighted the heed way made by Morocco with women empowerment through the adoption of a new constitution that enshrines gender equality.

In this connection, she stressed the need for implementing the provisions of the supreme law, expressing the UN readiness to provide support for the government and the Moroccan civil society in their initiatives to protect women’s rights.

“Morocco is an ideal place to express solidarity with women and meet women leaders and organizations,” she said in a response to a question on her choice to celebrate the International Women’s Day in the Kingdom.

Morocco made remarkable progress in terms of bringing women’s rights up to international standards while preserving its cultural specificity, she said.
