UN Women Executive Director Commends Morocco For Consolidating Women’s Rights

Rabat – UN Women Executive Director Michelle Bachelet commended Morocco, on Wednesday, for its achievements in consolidating women’s rights.

Speaking to the press following a meeting with Minister Delegate to Foreign Minister Youssef Amrani, Bachelet highlighted the headway made by Morocco with women’s rights notably in the field of promoting the gender approach and guaranteeing equality.

Morocco showed firm commitment to fostering the rule of law and the modern state as evidenced by adopting a family code along with other political reforms, the UN official said.

Amrani for his part said that the meeting was an opportunity to highlight Morocco’s efforts to empower women, saying in this respect that the new constitution enshrines gender equality.

Bachelet is in Morocco on the occasion of the International Women’s Day. Her visit also falls within the framework of strengthening Morocco-UN Women relations.
