Perhaps you remember the times when you heard that great Graham Nash song, or when you were flipping channels and stumbled across the classic movie “Casablanca” with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

Were you taken away by the flavor of those Moroccan images and song?

Scottsdale has partnered with Marrakech, Morocco, Africa, as a sister city, and the Scottsdale Sister Cities organization wants to reintroduce residents to this wonderful area.

Marrakech and Morocco still offer exotic sights and sounds, but a new spirit has risen in this northwestern African nation that is keen on riding the wave of change sweeping across the Arab world. Marrakech is a wonderful place to visit and do business. Those who recently have visited tell of receiving a warm reception from the people and a sense of well-being in the midst of seeing a different world.

Scottsdale Sister Cities will be providing an opportunity to taste a bit of that different world right here in Scottsdale. In honor of the recent formal signing of our Sister City agreement with Marrakech, a party is planned for March 24.

The party, which will include the sights, sounds and tastes of Moroccan food and entertainment, will be under a tent in the parking area of the mall on the southeastern corner of Shea Boulevard and Scottsdale Road.
