Rabat – The revitalization of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) has become, now more than ever, a pressing need imposed by the deep mutations taking place in the region, Minister delegate to the Foreign Minister Youssef Amrani said on Friday in Rabat.

Speaking at the 47th meeting of the AMU’s monitoring committee, Amrani underlined that the challenges of globalization, the financial crisis and the economic stagnation in the northern shore of the Mediterranean make the re-launch of the Maghreban Union a pressing need, calling for achieving complementarity and integration of the Maghreb region to turn it into an important actor on the international scene.

A “people to people” approach must go hand in hand with this political will and institutional efforts with the prospect of including civil society, professional organizations, businessmen, universities and territorial authorities, he said.

In the wake of regional mutations, HM King Mohammed VI called, on November 6, to set up a new Maghreban order to establish a real partnership based on strong and solidarity-based cooperation, stability and security, he recalled.

He highlighted the importance of the integration strategy adopted March 10, 1991in Ras Lanouf (Libya) and the project of creating the Maghreb Bank for Investment and Foreign trade (BMICE)
