Rabat – A delegation of the Working Group of the U.N. Human Rights Council on discrimination against women began, earlier this week, a visit to Morocco, the first of its kind of the group since its creation.
During the trip, the group met Inter-ministerial Delegate to Human Rights Mahjoub El Haiba, in presence of representatives of several government departments, said a statement by Moroccan Prime Minister obtained on Thursday by MAP news agency.
This meeting was followed by a presentation of the constitutional, institutional and legislative framework in fighting against all forms of discrimination against women and efforts made to harmonize national legislation concerning the fight against discrimination against women.
The program for this visit, which runs until next Monday, includes meetings with the Minister of Justice and Freedoms and women parliamentarians, as well as seminars on “the recent constitutional and legislative advances” in the wake of the Constitution of July 1, the family Code and nationality Code and the draft law reform underway, including those on the penal system.
