Marrakesh – The Fourth Ministerial Follow-up Meeting of Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV), which ended on Sunday in Marrakesh, called for reinforcing the support for Africa in order to boost its economic growth.
Given the important economic development achieved recently by many African states, the upcoming TICAD will put emphasis on promoting Africa’s economic growth, a final statement at the end of the follow-up meeting said.
“The TICAD IV will be a crucial step towards achieving a more inclusive and sustainable growth with the aim of building solid and resilient African societies,” it added.
The participants underlined the need to position Africa’s economic growth back in a juncture marked by the world’s economic slowdown and the crisis in the Euro-area.
To give concrete substance to that, they committed to undertaking a joint action to turn Africa into a hot destination for investments through ameliorating the business climate, developing infrastructure and encouraging public-private partnerships and South-South cooperation.
The TICAD V is slated on June 1-3, 2013, in the Japanese city of Yokohama.
Co-chaired by Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani and his Japanese peer Koichiro Gemba, the meeting assessed the implementation of the 2008 Yokohama action plan.
The event was an occasion to examine the progress made especially in the areas of economic growth, boosting capacity-building of African countries in order to face up to the challenges posed by climate changes and consolidating peace and good governance.
