A terrible year for tourism has seen 41 UK travel agents go bankrupt during 2011. This has been revealed by a study produced by accountants, Wilkins, Kennedy, Anthony Cork. It said that the floods in Asia and the revolutions in the Middle East have hit bookings, particularly to destinations such as Thailand, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco. Rising unemployment and a cut in real incomes caused by inflation have meant that fewer people are travelling abroad. But the longer term picture is also grim with more people ignoring the traditional operators and organising their own holidays by making their bookings through the internet. The report said that this would inevitably lead to more insolvencies among travel agents. Story provided by StockMarketWire.com
